For years, the Kia Niro was one of the most sensible crossovers on the market: frugal, practical and predictable. Now Kia has prepared a comprehensive update for the 2026 model year that changes its styling, interior and technology.

Evolution rather than revolution: Kia Niro in a new style

The new Kia Niro for 2026 has fully abandoned its previous, rather bland face in favour of a design language that the designers proudly call "Opposites United". The familiar silhouette has become sharper and noticeably more confident.

In a segment crowded with soft, rounded crossovers, the Niro finally gains a distinctive face that combines aerodynamics with genuine character.

The silver plastic trim on the front fascia has been dramatically reduced and integrated with far more grace. The headlamps are taller and pulled vertically towards the wheel arches.

On the side profile, the "aerodynamic blade" on the C-pillar stands out and can be painted in a contrasting colour. It is not just a styling cue but a real airflow element that reduces drag and helps both electric cars and hybrids gain range.

New 18-inch alloy wheels with a polished-steel-inspired pattern complete the look. Kia has also reduced the amount of "piano black" around the wheel arches, replacing it with more refined painted elements.

Interior: Kia Niro goes digital

The cabin has undergone a full digital transformation. Two 12.3-inch screens create a single, seamless glass panel running across the upper dashboard.

Alongside the modern interface, Kia kept a physical touch panel with knobs that switches between media and climate control with one tap, so the temperature can be changed without diving into on-screen menus.

The steering wheel is flattened at the bottom, and the rim thickness gives a reassuring sense of solidity in hand.

Interior trim includes eco-friendly vegan leather and recycled materials that, according to the manufacturer, are surprisingly soft to the touch. The quality upgrade can be compared in our model catalogue.

Three powertrains: HEV, PHEV and EV

The Kia Niro is offered with three powertrain paths: a conventional hybrid (HEV), a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a full electric (EV).

The EV variant delivers 204 hp and uses a 64.8 kWh net-capacity battery. In the mixed cycle it covers about 463 km, while in dynamic real-world driving with air conditioning owners should expect around 385–400 km.

A battery heating system limits winter range loss. Charging from 10 to 80% takes about 45 minutes on a fast 100 kW DC charger.

The base 1.6 GDI hybrid produces 141 hp and works with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (6DCT). It reaches 100 km/h in roughly 10 seconds and can return about 4.4 l/100 km in the city.

How much does the Kia Niro cost in Poland?

In Polish showrooms, the Kia Niro range starts at PLN 130,600 for the M trim in hybrid form.

The Business Line trim is priced at PLN 153,600 and adds, among other items, a head-up display and a power tailgate.

The Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid in top specification costs PLN 185,800. The declared electric-only range is up to 65 km.

For the 2026 model year, the brand offers discounts reaching up to a dozen or so thousand zlotys, which lowers the effective purchase price.

Final verdict

The new Kia Niro is a car for someone who wants to look modern without having to relearn how to use their vehicle every morning. It is solid, well thought out and finally looks the part.

It is one of the most universal A-to-B tools that today's electric cars and hybrids can offer in this price segment. The Kia Niro remains a Swiss army knife of motoring – now with sharper styling.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about the Kia Niro

What is the real motorway range of the electric version?

At a constant 140 km/h, the EV version with the 64.8 kWh battery drops to around 260–280 km. The tall body generates significant aerodynamic drag. At 120 km/h the range rises to about 320 km.

Does the hybrid use a CVT gearbox?

No. Kia uses a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (6DCT), which eliminates the engine "singing" effect typical of continuously variable transmissions under acceleration.

How long does it take to charge the Plug-in hybrid from a standard household socket?

The PHEV battery has a capacity of 11.1 kWh. From a standard 230V socket at around 2.3 kW, a full charge takes 5.5–6 hours. A wall-mounted Wallbox cuts this time to under 3 hours.

Does the Kia Niro have a heat pump in the electric version?

Yes, most cars on the Polish market, especially in higher equipment packages, are equipped with a heat pump that recovers heat from components and reduces winter energy use.

What is the boot capacity in each powertrain version?

The hybrid (HEV) offers 451 litres, the EV offers 475 litres plus a 20-litre front storage compartment, and the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) offers 348 litres.

Does the infotainment system support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

In 2026 model-year cars with the 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is standard.
