Imagine this: you are sitting in your typical two-tonne electric SUV, sipping coffee, when suddenly a small, feisty roadster pulls up. The massive giant may feel as if someone decided to lap it with the grace of a ballerina. Voilà, SC01! But will it be available in Poland and – crucially – at what price?
Who is SC01 and why does it share DNA with the Tesla Roadster
I won't pretend this is some new mythological sports beast – it's simply a light electric roadster from China, backed by Xiaomi, engineered by Tianjin Gongjiang Pai and produced by JMEV since April 2025. It has two electric motors rated at 160 kW each, giving a combined 429 HP and 560 Nm of torque, a curb weight below 1,400 kg, a 2.9-second sprint to 100 km/h, and a "range" of 520 km on the CLTC cycle – which in practice translates to significantly less. Those numbers may ring a bell from the Tesla Roadster, except here you get a zen-bowl weight and an overweight surcharge in the wallet – thanks to weighing under 1,400 kg, the SC01 is more than 100 kg lighter than a 911.
What about Poland? Anyone counting in zlotys?
Sure – how much? Well, nobody in Poland has really talked about it yet. The European version is going through homologation, production will start in Italy in 2026, the limit is just 1,000 units, and sales are by invitation only to selected clients. Will it come to Poland? Maybe, if someone is willing to pay enough and receives an invitation.
In China, the starting price was 229,800 yuan, roughly 120,000 PLN (don't slap your forehead yet – that's just a rate conversion, while in Europe it will end up at the level of several hundred thousand). But those were plans – in reality, the project did not enter full-scale production in China.
Looking at "normal" EVs in Poland: the Dacia Spring starts at 76,900 PLN, the Leapmotor T03 at 74,900 PLN, and the BYD Dolphin at 82,700 PLN. And then I have good news – the SC01 will not be cheap. I would expect that, given the Chinese-European tender game, tariffs, import costs and selective clients, the price in Poland (if it ever appears) will hover around three to four times that Chinese figure. That means at least 350,000 PLN, possibly even 400,000–500,000 PLN. Of course, these are just my estimates – nobody has officially confirmed this.
SC01 vs Polish competition – who wins?
The Polish EV market is full of dull but honest models – compact SUVs, city hatchbacks, crossovers. Decent dynamics, decent range, normal price. The SC01 is a different league – a roadster, low weight, a typically sporty soul. But the offer is limited, the price is high, and there is no service network (yet). On top of the price, you also need an invitation. Someone will say: "An aristocracy of sport"? And I'll reply: "An aristocracy with clenched lips and a painfully empty wallet".
Do you want a sports roadster that catapults to 100 km/h while your SUVs are still settling into their seats?
Clarkson-style verdict: "Bombshell"
Do you want a sports roadster that catapults to 100 km/h while your SUVs are still settling into their seats? The SC01 is exactly that car… but only for the chosen few and only if your wallet holds more than an Uber driver's monthly pay. Of course, sums above 300,000 PLN may appear, but then ask yourself whether you wouldn't rather pick the MG Cyberster (3.2 s to 100 km/h) or a used Taycan. The SC01 is not a car – it's a manifesto of lightness and exclusivity in a world where almost nobody remembers that small can be fast and fun.
As I used to say: you don't need to be big to be fast, but to step onto this carousel – you need thick cash and an invitation. Rubbish, if I'm not standing next to you with bundles of notes.
Bombshell: the SC01 may reach Poland, but only if you become one of the chosen and your bankrupt wallet is doing just fine.
