Buying decision

The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

California's HVIP programme gives this vehicle a voucher worth 120,000 dollars, or 150,000 in drayage work — and that is the real entry price, because BYD publishes no list. The smaller 422 kWh pack drops to roughly 240 km, so the battery choice decides the application. BYD's North American business now trades as RIDE.

Strengths

  • The HVIP voucher replaces the missing price list with a real figure.

Weaknesses

  • The declared 322 km has no stated load basis, so the figure does not say what remains at full combination weight.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No public list price. HVIP-eligible in California for a USD 120,000 voucher, or USD 150,000 for Class 8 drayage - but HVIP does not publish MSRP on its listing pages, so the voucher amount is not a price. Vehicle is sold through the approved dealer in Lancaster, California.

Poland

Not available in Poland

Not offered in PL. BYD's heavy truck line for North America is built and sold in the USA; BYD's European commercial vehicle business in Poland covers buses, not the 8TT.

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle charges at up to 230 kW DC — the chargers below are matched to that figure.

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

CORPORATE NOTE: BYD's North American commercial vehicle business now trades as RIDE - en.byd.com/byd-trucks now 301-redirects to ride.co, and the California HVIP listing names the OEM as 'BYD Motors (doing business as RIDE Coach and Bus)'. Trucks are still assembled in Lancaster, California by SMART Local 105 members, with the business HQ in Pasadena. There is no evidence BYD is exiting the North American commercial truck market; the 'too restrictive' comments from its US CEO concerned passenger cars and the 100% tariff on Chinese imports. SPECS FROM THE FEBRUARY 2026 RIDE CUTSHEET (used as authoritative): 422 kWh or 563 kWh LFP; two motors at 180 kW / 241 hp each, so 360 kW combined, and 450 Nm each, so 900 Nm combined at the motors; GCWR 82,000 lb; curb weight 26,040 lb (422 kWh) or 28,913 lb (563 kWh); DC 130 kW / 230 kW; top speed 65 mph; length 284.4 in, wheelbase 140 in + 53 in. CONFLICTS TO FLAG: (1) BYD's own older en.byd.com page says 435 kWh, GVWR 105,000 lb, 483 hp and 150+ miles - the 105,000 lb figure also appears on Wikipedia as 'curb weight 47,600 kg GCWR', which is internally inconsistent and contradicts the 82,000 lb GCWR on the current cutsheet. (2) Wikipedia gives 2,400 Nm torque, which is an axle/wheel figure, against 900 Nm combined at the motors on the cutsheet - torqueNm records the cutsheet motor figure. (3) Wikipedia's 200 km full-load / 270 km half-load range predates the current cutsheet's 150+/200+ mile claims. Prefer the 2026 cutsheet throughout. batteryGrossKwh records the larger 563 kWh option. HISTORY: on sale since 2018; 100th US electric truck delivered early 2020; Einride ordered 200 8TT day cabs in 2022, the largest heavy-duty BEV order outside Asia at the time, delivered from Lancaster; Anheuser-Busch runs 21 in California.
