The EvCompass verdict
The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.
Eight L-shaped packs cram 780 kWh gross into space that previously held 540 — a structural change, not a cosmetic one. The claimed 700 km grew from 600 km inside a year, which says more about the pace of this class than about the vehicle. Production starts in September 2026.
Strengths
- 700 km with no intermediate charge is at the front of this class today.
Weaknesses
- The 700 km range and 700 kW MCS belong to a version ordered before production started, so the figures do not yet have full fleet backing.

Research notes
The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.
The single biggest usable battery in a series European heavy truck. 8 packs of 97.5 kWh = 780 kWh gross; usable was 725 kWh at the June 2026 order-book opening (93% of gross). E-axle comes in two power levels, 420 kW (570 hp) and 460 kW (625 hp), with an integrated 6-speed transmission; Volvo calls this 'power' without specifying continuous vs peak. Sold only as a 6x2 tractor with a light-weight steerable/liftable tag axle. Tare weight is quoted by electrive at 13.3 t (extended range) vs 11.8 t (585 kWh version). CONFLICT: Volvo's May 2025 preview and much of the trade press quoted 600 km; the April 2026 production announcement raised this to 700 km. MCS is quoted at up to 700 kW by Volvo, while the mechanically identical Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780 quotes 720 kW - Volvo's own figure is used here. Battery chemistry is not stated by Volvo, but Renault Trucks describes the same 97.5 kWh L-shaped packs as high-energy-density NCA lithium-ion; NCA is not one of the schema's chemistry values so the field is left null. Order books opened 15 Jun 2026, production start early Sep 2026, so as of 27 Aug 2026 this is pre-production.
