The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

The design was the boldest in this database: a central driving position, a glazed cab, visibility engineered around pedestrian safety — and none of it helped. First insolvency in October 2023, the second in May 2025 after a failed restart. Sold only on subscription, never with a list price.

Strengths

  • A declared 200 km range and 250 kW peak power clearly define the intended 16 t distribution profile.

Weaknesses

  • Two insolvencies — no service organisation survives the company.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

Volta never published a list price. It sold on a 'Truck as a Service' subscription bundling vehicle, service and charging, but no rates were made public.

Poland

Not available in Poland

No Polish importer or dealer was ever appointed. n/a.

Charging infrastructure

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 160 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

STATUS IS THE HEADLINE FACT. Founded 2019 (Sweden), contract manufacturing at Steyr Automotive (ex-MAN Austria) from August 2021. European type approval for the 16 t granted March 2023; series production started April 2023. First insolvency October 2023. Luxor Capital Group (New York) bought the assets in spring 2024 and announced a restart with deliveries by end-2024 - which never happened. SECOND insolvency filed May 2025, covering both Volta Commercial Vehicles Limited (UK parent) and Volta Commercial Vehicles GmbH (Austria); the UK administrator is still seeking investors. Order book at its peak: DB Schenker just under 1,500 units, Petit Forestier over 1,000 - almost none delivered. 7.5 t, 12 t and 19 t variants were announced but never built. BATTERY CHEMISTRY CONFLICT: Carscoops and Electrifying.com both say LFP, but Proterra (an NMC pack supplier) was announced as the battery partner in 2021 - chemistry left null. Battery capacity was quoted as both '150-200 kWh' and '160-200 kWh' across sources; I recorded 200 kWh as the top of the band.
