The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

Hydrogen solved exactly the problem battery electrics handle worst — range without stopping — and yet Nikola filed for bankruptcy in February 2025, and the buyer Lucid explicitly excluded the hydrogen technology from the deal. That says more about the market than any specification. Sold mainly on California vouchers, with no list price.

Strengths

  • 805 km on 70 kg of hydrogen and refuelling in under 20 minutes define a clear profile for the fuel-cell version.

Weaknesses

  • The maker is bankrupt and the hydrogen technology found no buyer.

On charging
Hydrogen fuel cell, not a plug-in truck for line-haul use. Five 700-bar tanks holding up to 70 kg of H2; refuelling expected in under 20 minutes. Two 100 kW fuel cell stacks (200 kW total) feed two battery packs totalling 164 kWh.

Manufacturer estimate: up to 500 miles (805 km) on 70 kg of compressed hydrogen. Load basis not published.

This is a hydrogen vehicle — the figure describes range on one tank fill, not on a battery, and is not comparable with battery-electric range.

These are manufacturer-published figures gathered through EvCompass research.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No public list price found. Sold in California largely on HVIP fuel-cell vouchers; MSRP never published. No longer HVIP-listed.

Poland

Not available in Poland

n/a - never offered in PL and the manufacturer no longer exists.

Charging infrastructure

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 350 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

COMPANY STATUS: identical to the Tre BEV - Nikola filed Chapter 11 on 19 February 2025 and its assets were auctioned; Lucid's purchase explicitly excluded the hydrogen fuel cell technology and the business itself, so nobody is continuing the Tre FCEV. SPECS: five hydrogen tanks, 70 kg H2 max; two 100 kW fuel cell stacks; two HV battery packs totalling 164 kWh; 536 hp continuous (recorded as 400 kW) and 773 hp instantaneous (recorded as 576 kW); 82,000 lb GVWR; refuelling under 20 minutes; estimated 500-mile range. FLAGGED AS FCEV, not a battery-electric truck - the 164 kWh figure is a buffer battery, not a traction pack sized for range, and it must not be presented next to BEV battery capacities. Series production began in Coolidge, Arizona in Q3 2023; the largest fleet order was IMC Logistics' 50 trucks, delivered Q4 2023 through 2024. Nikola's HYLA brand covered the hydrogen refuelling side. modelYearFrom set to 2023 (start of series production).
