MOL CY RME225 4x4 RoRo
270 kWh across three packs and a separate 50 kW motor just for the hydraulics and fifth wheel — the RME225 does not skimp on the supporting gear.

The EvCompass verdict
The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.
This is a RoRo tractor, so it shuttles trailers and platforms between the quay and the ferry ramp rather than covering routes — nobody publishes a range in kilometres or an hours-of-work figure, because neither would be meaningful here. Six units went to DFDS on a seven-year leasing agreement with Volvo Financial Services instead of a sale — the only public pricing signal that exists. In Poland, availability is marked as unresolved rather than guessed either way, even though the RoRo ports at Świnoujście, Gdynia and Gdańsk are the obvious application.
Strengths
- Volvo Penta and MOL called this the world's first operational electric 4x4 RoRo tractor.
Weaknesses
- MOL and Volvo Penta publish no peak DC charging rate, even though they offer both AC and fast DC charging through the CCS standard.

Manufacturer-published facts grouped by the decisions they inform, without raw source headings.
Battery and charging
- Gross battery
- 270 kWh
- On charging
- Both AC Level 2 and DC fast charging through the CCS standard. Neither MOL nor Volvo Penta publishes a peak DC charging rate for the RME225.
Powertrain
- Powertrain
- Battery electric
- Continuous power
- 400 kW

- Measurement basis
- Not applicable - a RoRo tractor shuttles trailers and cassettes between the quay and the ferry deck. No range figure is published and none would be meaningful. MOL and Volvo Penta publish no operating-hours figure either.

Price and availability
What it costs and whether it is available in Poland
Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.
The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.
In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.
No published price. The one public commercial datum is the structure of the DFDS deal announced 3 April 2026: six RME225 units taken on a seven-year leasing agreement with Volvo Financial Services rather than purchased outright - which is how Volvo Penta is packaging this vehicle for terminal operators.

Polish availability not established
MOL CY is a Belgian manufacturer (Hoogstraten) selling port and heavy-industry equipment across Europe, and used MOL terminal tractors circulate on the Polish market, but no Polish importer or dealer for the RME225 could be confirmed. Polish RoRo terminals (Swinoujscie, Gdynia, Gdansk) are the obvious application. Marked unknown rather than guessed.

Recommended chargers
Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.
This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 150 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

Research notes
The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.
The other series-production electric 4x4 RoRo tractor besides Terberg's RT253EV, and the one with the better-documented powertrain because Volvo Penta supplies and publicises it. Powertrain, from Volvo Penta: three battery packs totalling 270 kWh; two 200 kW traction motors (recorded as 400 kW combined in motorPowerKwCont - the sources do not distinguish continuous from peak, so treat it as nominal system power, not a verified continuous rating); a Volvo EPT802 transmission; and, separately, a 50 kW motor dedicated to the hydraulic system and the fifth-wheel coupling. That dedicated hydraulic motor is the detail that distinguishes a purpose-built electric terminal tractor from a converted road truck - the boom and fifth wheel have their own power source rather than parasitically loading the traction system. History: Volvo Penta and MOL began the partnership in 2021 and described the result as the world's first operational electric 4x4 RoRo tractor. A prototype went to DFDS at the Port of Ghent, Belgium in 2024; the series model RME225 followed, and on 3 April 2026 DFDS ordered six on a seven-year Volvo Financial Services lease. axleConfig is null because this is a 4x4 and the schema enumeration (4x2 / 6x2 / 6x4) has no slot for it. Do not record it as 4x2. Not published anywhere found: GCW, fifth-wheel lift capacity, battery chemistry, peak charging kW, operating hours. All null. Image coverage is a single verified file - the trade-press photo from the DFDS announcement. MOL's own site (molcy.com) serves product imagery that could not be resolved to direct file URLs; a human editor should request press images from MOL CY or Volvo Penta for side, front and rear views.
