The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

Lion Electric emerged from creditor protection in May 2025 and now builds only school buses — the Lion8 product page is still live, but there is no product behind it. A permitted 57,606 kg combination weight and 500 kW of peak power show the design was real rather than conceptual. History, not an offer.

Strengths

  • A 630 kWh battery and 443 km of declared range give the heavy regional tractor a complete profile.

Weaknesses

  • The product page is live with no product behind it.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No public list price found. Lion sold on Canadian iZEV / Quebec and US HVIP incentives; MSRP was never published.

Poland

Not available in Poland

n/a - never offered in PL. Lion Electric sold only in Canada and the USA.

Charging infrastructure

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 350 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

Sources and research

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

COMPANY STATUS: Lion Electric obtained creditor protection under Canada's CCAA on 19 December 2024 after defaulting on two loans, with Deloitte Restructuring as monitor and DIP financing in place; its shares were suspended on the NYSE and TSX. The court-appointed monitor at one point said liquidation was the likely outcome. In May 2025 a group of Quebec investors acquired the company for about CAD 6 million against more than CAD 400 million of debt; a Quebec judge approved the sale. The business was renamed LION in summer 2025. PRODUCT STATUS: the reorganised LION operates only out of the original Saint-Jerome, Quebec plant with roughly 200 employees and builds ONE thing - electric school buses (LIONC Type C and LIOND Type D). Trucks are not in the current product lineup on thelionelectric.com. The Lion8 Tractor product page is still live and still carries full specs, but it is an orphan page, not a current offer - hence productionStatus 'discontinued'. This is the single most important fact on this record: do not present the Lion8 as buyable. PRODUCT SPECS (from the manufacturer, still verifiable on the live page): up to 630 kWh; up to 275 miles / 443 km; 500 kW (670 hp) max and 400 kW (536 hp) continuous; 2,200 Nm (1,622 lb-ft) max motor torque; GCWR up to 127,000 lb (57,606 kg), which Lion claimed was the highest in the EV truck market; 6x4 with a pair of integrated Meritor 14Xe two-speed e-axles rated 40,000 lb; top speed 70 mph; onboard weighing system and ADAS. Announced at ACT Expo May 2024 with commercial availability promised for mid-2024. EXCLUSION NOTE: the sibling Lion6 is a Class 6 straight truck and therefore falls below the Class 7+ threshold for this group - deliberately not recorded.
