Kalmar Ottawa T2 EV

210 kWh is enough for 20–26 hours of distribution work or 11–14 hours on a container terminal — the T2 EV counts working hours, not kilometres.

Buying decision

The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

Charging is capped at 122 kW by the vehicle's own inlet — Kalmar's marketing copy mentions infrastructure up to 150 kW, but 122 kW is the real limit. Four variants span 36,741 to 88,451 kg of allowed combination weight, so this is not one vehicle but a family with very different load capacities. It is formally unavailable in Poland: this is a North American product, and the Polish product page returns a 404 error.

Strengths

  • Battery warranty: 6 years or 2,800 charge cycles to 80% capacity.

Weaknesses

  • The vehicle inlet limits charging to 122 kW even though Kalmar offers charging solutions up to 150 kW.

CCS1 inlet, 600 V nominal system. The January 2025 Kalmar Ottawa brochure spec table states 'Charging inlet capacity (kW), max: 122' for all four models; Kalmar's own web copy says charging solutions 'up to 150 kW' are available - the 122 kW figure is the vehicle inlet limit and is the one to trust. Kalmar sells matching DC FastCharge EVSE with one or two CCS1 plugs plus modular power cabinets and optional stationary storage. Battery warranty 6 years / 2,800 charge cycles to 80 % remaining capacity; 3 years / 6,500 h on major electric components; 24 months / 6,000 h base machine.

Measurement basis
Not applicable - a terminal tractor never leaves the site and range is not a published or meaningful metric. Kalmar publishes energy consumption instead: 8-10 kWh/h in distribution duty (D81-50 DOT / D110-50) and 15-18 kWh/h in container-terminal duty (CT150-60 / CT195-70). At 210 kWh that implies roughly a 20-26 h distribution shift or a 11-14 h container-terminal shift on one charge, before any opportunity charging.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No public list price. Kalmar sells through dealers (Rush Truck Centers, RWC Group, Excel Truck Group and ~170 other North American locations) and quotes per configuration; dealer inventory pages for new T2 EV units carry 'call for price'. Context on the incentive side: the Autocar E-ACTT, the closest directly comparable purpose-built electric terminal tractor, draws a USD 90,000 California HVIP voucher, and California's CORE programme removed terminal tractors from its catalogue on 7 July 2025 on the grounds that the category had 'graduated' - strong commercial success and robust product availability - which is a useful signal that electric yard tractors are now priced as mainstream equipment rather than as subsidised pilots.

Poland

Not available in Poland

Kalmar Poland sp. z o.o. is a real Kalmar subsidiary and the Polish-language site lists 'Ciagniki terminalowe' as a product category, but the T2 EV itself is a North-American product: built at Ottawa, Kansas, rated in pounds, fitted with a CCS1 inlet, BABA-compliant, DOT-certified only for North American on-highway use, and sold through Kalmar Ottawa's ~170 North American dealer locations. The Polish-language product page for the electric terminal tractor returns 404 (checked 2026-08-28); the English global page is the only one that exists. Treat PL availability as enquiry-only, not catalogued.

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

Kalmar's third-generation electric terminal tractor, marketed both as 'T2 EV' and 'OT2 EV' (same machine - the OT2 name was used at the March 2025 TMC launch and in trade coverage; Kalmar's own product page and brochure say T2 EV). Sales opened at TMC Nashville 10-13 March 2025, production started at Ottawa, Kansas in the first week of April 2025, deliveries from Q2 2025. Penske Truck Leasing added it to its North American lease fleet with availability from Q2 2026 - the first leasing company to do so. Four models, all 4x2, all on the same 126 in wheelbase and the same driveline. Distribution: D81-50 DOT (81,000 lb GCW, 50,000 lb lift, DOT-certified on-road, 33 mph unloaded) and D110-50 (110,000 lb GCW, 50,000 lb lift, 25 mph). Container terminal: CT150-60 (150,000 lb GCW, 60,000 lb lift) and CT195-70 (195,000 lb GCW, 70,000 lb lift), both 22 mph. Unladen weight 17,600 lb (distribution) or 19,200 lb (container). Recorded gcwKg is the top CT195-70 figure, 195,000 lb = 88,451 kg; the span across the range is 81,000-195,000 lb = 36,741-88,451 kg. Specs a road-truck frame would miss and that matter here: fifth wheel is a Holland FW35-TT with an 80,000 lb plate rating, lift height 17 in, lift 7 s up / 5 s down, fifth-wheel-down height 46 in (1,168 mm), trailer clearance 89 in boom up / 93 in boom down, overall length 201 in, width 100 in. Wheelbase options 126-136 in. Rear axles: Kalmar RA37 (distribution) or Meritor MOR-32 (container); front Kalmar FA11 or Meritor MFS-20. Generation note: the earlier second-generation Kalmar Ottawa T2E (2019-2020 model years, 132 / 176 / 220 kWh, with a transmission) is a separate machine and is recorded separately. The three big changes in this generation are the DC FastCharge system, deletion of the transmission in favour of a direct-drive motor on the rear axle, and an active thermal management system holding the battery core at 77-86 F between -22 F and +122 F ambient. Battery chemistry: the brochure says only 'Li-ion'; SAE Mobility Engineering's launch report specifies LFP for the 105/140/210 kWh options. Recorded as LFP with that caveat. Reference-image coverage is thin - one verified manufacturer file. Kalmar's site serves product imagery through a JS asset pipeline that does not expose direct file URLs, so a human editor should pull side, front and rear shots from Kalmar's media bank or from dealer inventory listings (RWC Group, Excel Truck Group, Rush Truck Centres Canada).
