The EvCompass verdict
The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.
A Swiss fleet of these has covered millions of kilometres, and that is the strongest evidence hydrogen has in heavy freight today. But Hyundai moved this model to pay-per-use instead of sale, which shifts infrastructure risk from customer to manufacturer — and shows the arithmetic does not close any other way. The 72 kWh buffer is not there for electric driving, but to smooth the fuel cell's output.
Strengths
- Millions of kilometres genuinely worked in a European fleet.
Weaknesses
- The XCIENT’s 72 kWh is a fuel-cell buffer battery, not a traction pack comparable with a battery-electric truck.

Battery and charging
- Gross battery
- 72 kWh
- On charging
- FUEL-CELL ELECTRIC, NOT A PLUG-IN BEV. There is no DC charging inlet and no battery swap. The 72 kWh pack (3 x 24 kWh) is a buffer for the fuel-cell system, not a traction battery in the BEV sense. Hydrogen storage 31.08 kg at 700 bar; refuelling 8-20 minutes.

- Measurement basis
- Manufacturer: approximately 400 km per refuelling. Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle - this is a tank range, not a battery range. Refuelling takes 8-20 minutes.
This is a hydrogen vehicle — the figure describes range on one tank fill, not on a battery, and is not comparable with battery-electric range.

Price and availability
What it costs and whether it is available in Poland
Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.
The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.
In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.
No list price. Hyundai's European fleet has been placed under pay-per-use and leasing arrangements (originally with Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility in Switzerland) and, in Germany, under a BMDV funding programme budgeted at EUR 1.6 billion through 2024 that covered the extra cost of zero-emission trucks. No transaction price has been published.
Poland
Not available in Poland
No Polish deployment, importer or hydrogen-refuelling arrangement found. European operations are concentrated in Switzerland, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Austria, all of which have HRS coverage that Poland lacks for heavy trucks.
Charging infrastructure
Recommended chargers
Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.
This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 350 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

Research notes
The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.
FUEL CELL, NOT BATTERY-ELECTRIC - flag this prominently in any catalogue listing. Included because it is genuinely deployed as a heavy truck in Europe, unlike almost every other Asian heavy zero-emission truck. GENERATION SPLIT: the 2020 launch truck used a 190 kW system (2 x 95 kW stacks) or a 180 kW system (2 x 90 kW) with seven tanks holding ~32 kg H2; the current European spec on Hyundai's own product page is 220 kW (2 x 110 kW), a 350 kW / 2,237 Nm motor, a 72 kWh buffer battery and 31.08 kg H2. A further updated truck was unveiled at ACT Expo 2025. The figures recorded here are the current European product-page spec. Two configurations: 4x2 (GVW 19,500 kg, GCW 38,000 kg) and 6x2 (GVW 27,000 kg, GCW 42,000 kg) - the 6x2 is recorded as the headline. Fleet status as of January 2026: 165 trucks across Switzerland, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Austria, 20 million km cumulative in Europe over five years; Switzerland alone passed 10 million km with 48 trucks. Germany took 27 trucks with seven logistics, manufacturing and retail operators under BMDV funding. Also deployed in the US, Korea, New Zealand, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
