Hyster Electric Terminal Tractor

260 kWh delivers 9.5 hours of continuous work at 82,554 kg of combined weight — Hyster counts terminal work in shifts, not kilometres.

The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

Hyster didn't build this tractor alone — since 2020 it has shared a platform with Capacity Trucks, pairing Capacity's terminal-tractor chassis with Hyster-Yale's electric powertrain; Capacity offers 130 or 260 kWh packs, and Hyster sells the version with the larger, 260 kWh pack. 10 units went to APM Terminals at the Port of Mobile, Alabama in 2024, an order announced in March 2024. Hyster publishes no motor power or torque figures, and the sister Capacity version recharges in as little as one hour — no such figure is published for Hyster's own tractor.

Strengths

  • 9.5 hours of continuous work at the full 82,554 kg combined weight covers a long port shift without a charging break.

Weaknesses

  • Hyster publishes no motor power, torque, or charging time for its own tractor.

On charging
Hyster does not publish a peak charging rate or connector standard for the terminal tractor. The sister Capacity-badged vehicle on the same Hyster-Yale powertrain is quoted at a recharge in as little as one hour.

Measurement basis
Not applicable - terminal tractor. Hyster publishes runtime instead: approximately 9.5 hours of continuous run time on a full charge from the 260 kWh lithium-ion pack, in container-terminal duty at the full 182,000 lb gross combined weight rating. That is a demanding duty cycle and the 9.5 h figure should not be compared directly with the 22 h numbers other makers quote for light distribution work.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No published price. The reference deployment is a 10-unit order from APM Terminals for the Port of Mobile, Alabama, announced March 2024 for 2024 delivery; commercial terms were not disclosed.

Poland

Polish availability not established

Hyster-Yale has a broad European dealer and service network including Poland (Hyster Europe operates through national dealers for lift trucks and port equipment), and Hyster markets electric container-handling equipment on its EMEA site, so a Polish enquiry has a real channel behind it. But no Polish listing or delivery of the electric terminal tractor specifically could be confirmed, and the vehicle is rated in pounds and has so far been delivered in the United States. Marked unknown rather than guessed.

Charging infrastructure

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 150 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

SHARED PLATFORM - read alongside the Capacity Trucks record. Hyster-Yale Group and Capacity Trucks entered a partnership in 2020 to jointly develop electric, hydrogen and automation-ready terminal tractors, combining Capacity's terminal-truck chassis with Hyster-Yale's lift-truck electric powertrain expertise and its Nuvera fuel-cell subsidiary. The vehicle Hyster sells and the vehicle Capacity showed are two badges on that one collaboration, and the battery options line up: Capacity quotes 130 kWh or 260 kWh, Hyster's delivered specification is 260 kWh. Hard specification, from the APM Terminals Port of Mobile deployment: 182,000 lb (82,554 kg) gross combined weight rating, 260 kWh lithium-ion, roughly 9.5 hours of continuous run time on a full charge, moving laden and unladen containers between the crane and the yard. Ten units, announced March 2024, delivered 2024. Hyster's wider zero-emission port range - electric and hydrogen reach stackers, empty container handlers, a Nuvera-fuel-cell ReachStacker using two 45 kW stacks - is out of scope here; only the terminal tractor is an N3/Class 8 yard tractor. GAPS: no motor power, torque, fifth-wheel rating, charging rate, connector standard or battery chemistry is published. NO VERIFIED REFERENCE IMAGES - Hyster's press and product pages could not be resolved to direct image file URLs, and generic Hyster port-equipment photography mostly shows reach stackers and container handlers, not the terminal tractor. An editor sourcing images must check the vehicle is the terminal tractor and not a container handler.
