Independent heavy-vehicle dossier

Hino Profia Z FCV

650 km on one hydrogen fill — the Profia Z is a fuel-cell vehicle, not a battery-electric one, and that figure must not be set against battery range.

The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

Hydrogen solves range and mass, but moves the problem to infrastructure: Poland has no refuelling network that would keep such a vehicle working. Hino offers it only on a lease with servicing on its own side, which itself says what stage this technology is at. Not available outside Japan.

Strengths

  • 650 km on one hydrogen fill and 15–30 minute refuelling give the fuel-cell system a clearly defined stop-time advantage.

Weaknesses

  • Requires a hydrogen refuelling network that Poland does not have.

Specifications

Manufacturer-published facts grouped by the decisions they inform, without raw source headings.

Battery and charging

On charging
FUEL-CELL ELECTRIC, NOT A PLUG-IN BEV. Six hydrogen tanks storing 50 kg at 70 MPa; refuelling takes 15-30 minutes. A lithium-ion buffer battery sits between the fuel cells and the AC synchronous motor; its capacity is not published. No charging inlet, no battery swap.

Measurement basis
Manufacturer: up to 650 km per full tank, quoted for a loaded vehicle. Fuel-cell tank range, not battery range.

This is a hydrogen vehicle — the figure describes range on one tank fill, not on a battery, and is not comparable with battery-electric range.

These are manufacturer-published figures gathered through EvCompass research.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No price published. The Profia Z FCV is offered only through lease programmes, with Hino covering maintenance costs.

Poland

Not available in Poland

Japan-only. Hino withdrew from the European truck market and has no EU heavy-vehicle presence.

Charging infrastructure

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 350 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.

IMAGE GAP - only one photo found; Hino's Japanese newsroom was not fetched in this session. FUEL CELL, NOT BATTERY-ELECTRIC. Included because the brief asked for Isuzu/Hino heavy coverage and NO Japanese manufacturer currently offers a heavy battery-electric truck - Isuzu's N-Series EV (60/100/140/180 kWh) and Hino's Dutro Z EV are light/medium-duty, well below N3 heavy. Launched 24 October 2025 as Japan's first mass-produced fuel-cell heavy-duty truck, jointly developed by Toyota and Hino on the Hino Profia platform, with two Toyota fuel-cell stacks derived from the Mirai - neither Hino nor Toyota has disclosed the adapted stacks' maximum power. 12 m long, 2.5 m wide, 3.8 m high; payload approximately 11.6 t in dry-van form. Hino built a prototype in 2023 and tested it over 400,000 km before launch. GVW, axle configuration and motor power were not published and are deliberately null.
