The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

Freightliner quotes range as typical rather than maximum, a rare and welcome habit in this database — the 6x4 configuration drops to roughly 354 km. A smaller 291 kWh pack exists and shortens the route accordingly. The manufacturer publishes no price and refers buyers to dealers.

Strengths

  • Range quoted as typical, not as a marketing maximum.

Weaknesses

  • 270 kW requires the optional dual-port setup, while a single port provides 180 kW, so the highest figure is not standard.

Measurement basis
Manufacturer 'typical range': 230 miles (approx. 370 km) for the 4x2 with the 438 kWh pack, 220 miles (approx. 354 km) for the 6x4 with 438 kWh, and 155 miles (approx. 249 km) for the 4x2 with the 291 kWh pack. Headline is the 230-mile long-range 4x2 figure. Freightliner positions the truck for fixed, predictable routes of roughly 80-350 km per day.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

Freightliner publishes no MSRP and directs buyers to dealers for a quote; its own FAQ says only that 'the high voltage batteries are the largest single cost driver' and that the purchase price is higher than comparable diesel Freightliners. No verifiable per-unit price from a fleet order or a California HVIP listing was located during research (HVIP publishes voucher amounts, not base prices).

Poland

Not available in Poland

n/a - North American product only, sold through the Freightliner dealer network in the US and Canada. Not homologated or offered in the EU.

Research notes

The sources and research notes behind the figures, claims and editorial assessment.

Class 8 battery-electric tractor, Detroit ePowertrain, in series production for North America (DTNA). Freightliner's specification page states the 291 kWh and 438 kWh figures as USABLE capacity, so batteryUsableKwh carries them and batteryGrossKwh is left null. Power, per Freightliner's own spec sheet: tandem (6x4) drive 425 HP (317 kW) or 470 HP (350 kW); single (4x2) drive 320 HP (240 kW) or 395 HP (296 kW). Freightliner does not label these continuous or peak, so motorPowerKwPeak carries the highest published figure (350 kW) and motorPowerKwCont is null. Max GCW 82,000 lb (37,195 kg) for the tandem, 65,000 lb (29,484 kg) for the single drive; the 82,000 lb figure is recorded. Approximate curb weights: 16,350 lb (4x2 standard range), 18,750 lb (4x2 long range), 21,800 lb (6x4). Overall length 273" or 306", width 100.7", height 116.2" (157.4" with roof fairing). Cab: Day Cab 116" BBC only - there is no sleeper eCascadia. torqueNm left null deliberately: Freightliner publishes 11,500 lb-ft (single-motor eAxle) and 23,000 lb-ft (dual-motor eAxle), but these are gear-multiplied AXLE output torques and are not comparable to the motor torque figures European makers publish. 23,000 lb-ft is approx. 31,200 Nm at the axle. Battery chemistry is not published by Freightliner - left null rather than assumed. modelYearFrom 2022 reflects the start of series production of the production eCascadia (the 2019-2021 vehicles were a customer-trial fleet); Freightliner does not state a model year on the public pages, so treat this as approximate.
