Terra 54 charging station

PLN 148,340.46

The ABB Terra 54 is a freestanding DC fast-charging station, the successor to ABB's earlier best-selling Terra generation of the same 50 kW power; it shares its cabinet with the smaller Terra 24 — the only difference is the power of the converters inside. This listing is the CJ variant: CCS2 and CHAdeMO outlets, each up to 50 kW DC (CCS2 up to 125 A, CHAdeMO up to 120 A), with no AC outlet, and 3.9 m cables. The weatherproof steel cabinet is rated IP54 for ingress and IK08 for impact resistance, weighs 325 kg and measures 780 x 565 x 1900 mm (D x W x H). Power comes from a 3-phase 400 V AC supply; ABB states up to 80 A / 55 kVA for the CJ variant. Operating range is -35 to +50°C with the LTO module (-10 to +50°C without it). Connectivity is via a GSM/3G modem and 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, and authorization uses an RFID card (ISO/IEC 14443A/B, ISO/IEC 15693, FeliCa, NFC, Mifare, Calypso; Legic optional). A certified MID meter and site load-management software can both be added as options. An external RCD is not included in ABB's delivery scope — it is selected and installed by the electrical contractor.

Independent opinion

The EV Compass opinion

What this device is actually good for, and when something else is worth a look.

The Terra 54 in this configuration (CJ) is a purchase for a public-charging operator, a fleet or a commercial site that needs fast DC charging via CCS2 or CHAdeMO, but not AC charging from the same unit. The site needs a 3-phase 400 V AC connection — ABB states up to 80 A / 55 kVA for the CJ variant — plus room for a foundation under the 325 kg freestanding cabinet, which measures 780 x 565 x 1900 mm. An external RCD is not included in ABB's delivery scope — it is selected and installed by a qualified electrician, with a type resistant to short current peaks during the DC pre-charge phase recommended. The station communicates over a GSM/3G modem or 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, letting it connect to an operator's management system (CPMS). If the local market requires MID-compliant billing, a certified DC meter needs to be added as an option — as does site load-management software, useful when several chargers share one connection. The Terra 54 shares its cabinet and installation with the smaller Terra 24, so if future demand is uncertain it's worth wiring for the full 50 kW from the start.

Strengths

  • Up to 50 kW DC on the CCS2 or CHAdeMO outlet — serves almost every EV on the market, including older CHAdeMO models, in the same cabinet as the smaller Terra 24.
  • A modest grid requirement for a DC fast charger — the CJ (no-AC) variant draws up to 80 A / 55 kVA, clearly less than a bigger ABB station (e.g. the Terra 124).
  • A rugged steel cabinet rated IP54 for ingress and IK08 for impact resistance, with a wide -35 to +50°C operating range with the LTO module — built for unattended outdoor use.
  • GSM/3G modem and 10/100 Base-T Ethernet connectivity, plus a multi-format RFID reader (ISO/IEC 14443A/B, ISO/IEC 15693, FeliCa, NFC, Mifare, Calypso) ready for CPMS integration.
  • A certified MID meter and site load-management software can both be added later as an option — the investment can grow alongside the site's billing requirements.

Better served by another model

  • If the site only ever serves newer CCS-only cars and never needs CHAdeMO, the wall-mounted Delta DC Wallbox 25 kW CCS is a lower entry cost than the freestanding Terra 54.

  • When 50 kW is more power than needed, or the grid connection is tightly limited, the smaller Terra 24 shares the same cabinet and installation but with cheaper DC converters.

  • For a busy public site where one bay needs to serve more sessions a day, or charge two cars at once, the larger ABB Terra 124 offers more power.

Terra 24 charging station

The Terra 24 shares the same cabinet and installation method, but with smaller DC converters — a sensible pick when the full 50 kW isn't needed right away.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

How much power does this station deliver?

This Terra 54 (CJ) version delivers up to 50 kW DC on the CCS2 outlet (up to 125 A) or the CHAdeMO outlet (up to 120 A) — both outlets share the same peak power, and the station has no AC outlet.

What connectors does this station have?

This is the CJ variant: CCS2 and CHAdeMO outlets, each with a 3.9 m cable. ABB also sells versions with an added AC outlet (cable or socket) — this catalogue listing does not have one.

Does the station have a built-in RCD?

An external (upstream) RCD is not part of ABB's delivery scope for the Terra 54 — it is selected and installed by the electrical contractor, per local regulations, with a type resistant to current peaks during the DC pre-charge phase recommended.

What grid connection does this version need?

For the CJ variant (no AC outlet), ABB states a draw of up to 80 A and 55 kVA from a 3-phase 400 V AC supply — noticeably less than versions with an added AC outlet.

Can an MID-compliant meter be added?

Yes — the MID meter is an option that can be factory-fitted or added in the field later as an upgrade, useful in markets where energy billing must be MID-certified.

What does the station communicate with, and how is it authorized?

The Terra 54 connects over a GSM/3G modem or 10/100 Base-T Ethernet to an operator's management system (CPMS), and authorization is handled by an RFID reader supporting ISO/IEC 14443A/B and ISO/IEC 15693 cards, among others.
