Terra 24 charging station

PLN 119,515.41

The ABB Terra 24 is a freestanding, multi-standard DC fast-charging station from ABB's Terra family — an older design than the brand's newer DC models, such as the Terra 94. In its CJ version it combines CCS2 and CHAdeMO connectors in one cabinet. As shipped, the station is rated at 20 kW, and its DC section can be upgraded to 50 kW — once upgraded, the unit matches the Terra 54 specification, the same physical cabinet fitted with more power modules. Power comes from a 3-phase 400 V AC supply, and the charging cable is 3.9 m long. The steel cabinet is rated IP54 with IK10 impact resistance (IK08 for the touchscreen), and its operating range is -10°C to +50°C without LTO batteries, or -35°C to +50°C with LTO. Connectivity is via a GSM/3G/4G modem or 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, the station supports OCPP 1.6, and authorization is by RFID card (ISO 14443 A/B, ISO/IEC 15693). A built-in Type A RCD protects the AC supply to the power modules. In the German market, an optional field-installed meter compliant with the MID directive 2014/32/EU is available. The station carries CE certification (EMC, LVD, RED directives) and CHAdeMO 1.0, with a 2-year manufacturer warranty extendable to 5 years.

Independent opinion

The EV Compass opinion

What this device is actually good for, and when something else is worth a look.

The Terra 24 is an investment for a public charging operator, a fleet, or a commercial site — not a single household — its price and connection scale match the DC segment, not home wallboxes. Before ordering, it's worth confirming with the supplier whether the unit should stay at its factory-set 20 kW or have the upgrade to 50 kW ordered straight away — the upgrade remains possible later, but needs another service visit, so planning for the eventual power need up front saves cost. The site needs a 3-phase 400 V AC supply; the manufacturer does not publish a separate input-current figure for the 20 kW version, so sizing the protection and supply cable calls for a DC-qualified installer. The freestanding steel cabinet, rated IP54, needs outdoor or hall space with service access from every side. The station communicates over a GSM/3G/4G modem or Ethernet and supports OCPP 1.6, letting sessions be monitored and billed remotely through an operator's management system (CPMS). In the German market, where local rules require it, an optional meter compliant with the MID directive 2014/32/EU can be ordered, fitted in the field.

Strengths

  • Two DC charging standards in one station — CCS2 and CHAdeMO — so a single install serves nearly every EV on the market, including older CHAdeMO-only models.
  • The DC section can be upgraded from 20 to 50 kW without replacing the whole station — same cabinet, more power modules — reducing the risk of paying up front for power you don't need yet.
  • An IP54, IK10 cabinet for unattended outdoor use, rated from -35°C to +50°C (LTO-battery version) — built for harsh climates.
  • GSM/3G/4G modem or Ethernet connectivity plus OCPP 1.6 support let sessions be monitored remotely and the station integrated with an operator's management system (CPMS).
  • RFID authorization (ISO 14443 A/B, ISO/IEC 15693) with an expiry date settable per card — convenient access control for a fleet or public station.
  • The manufacturer's 2-year warranty can be extended to 5 years — longer than the standard term offered by some competitors in this segment.

Better served by another model

  • When a single bay must guarantee high power from day one with no upgrade step, the newer ABB Terra 94 is a simpler choice than upgrading a Terra 24 to 50 kW.

  • When a single CCS outlet without CHAdeMO is enough and budget is tight, the wall-mounted Delta DC Wallbox 25kW CCS is a lower entry cost than the freestanding Terra 24.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

What is the Terra 24's real power rating — 20 kW or more?

As shipped, the ABB Terra 24 delivers 20 kW. The manufacturer documents an upgrade path for the DC section to 50 kW without replacing the whole station — once upgraded, the unit matches the Terra 54 specification (same cabinet, more power modules). So this isn't one station sold in several power variants at purchase — it's a single model with a documented upgrade path.

What charging connectors does the station have?

In the CJ version, the station combines a CCS2 connector and a CHAdeMO connector in one cabinet, so it serves both Combo 2 cars and older CHAdeMO-standard vehicles.

What grid connection does the station require?

The Terra 24 runs on a 3-phase 400 V AC supply. The manufacturer does not publish a separate input-current figure for the 20 kW version — it increases as the DC section is upgraded toward 50 kW.

Does the station have an MID-compliant meter?

In the German market, an optional meter compliant with the MID directive 2014/32/EU is available, fitted in the field after the station is installed.

What warranty does the station carry?

The manufacturer provides a 2-year warranty from the commissioning date, extendable by a further 3 years — up to 5 years in total.

What management system does the station integrate with?

The station communicates over a GSM/3G/4G modem or 10/100 Base-T Ethernet and supports OCPP 1.6, letting it connect to a charging network operator's management system (CPMS).
