Methodology and sources
How EvCompass figures, rankings and simulations are produced, and where their data comes from.
EvCompass scoring methodology
Five scores compare published cars available in the catalogue. Every input, its direction and weight comes from the same definition used for the calculations.
- Each score combines specific vehicle data with its position among the cars available in the catalogue.
- When too little data is known, the score is not calculated.
- The comparison covers 629 cars available in the catalogue.
- Ranking positions are computed from catalogue data using the rules on this page.
Comparison set
Percentiles compare cars that are published and available in the catalogue, so a score depends on the current market mix.
Methodology version 1
Percentiles and ties
For a known value, we calculate 100 × (B + (E − 1) / 2) / (N − 1), where B is the number of worse values, E is the number of tied values, and N is the number of cars with a known value. Tied values receive the same percentile.
If only one car has a known value, it receives percentile 50.
Data coverage
Unknown data receives neither points nor a default percentile. We omit it and proportionally rescale the remaining weights; a score is shown from 70% coverage upward.
The City price input and the only Value input use a verified Polish price for the specific version. A model-level starting price does not count as a version price. Value also requires a positive real-world range; we do not use prices converted from abroad.
These are relative EvCompass calculations, not editorial ratings, tests or reviews.

Ranking EvCompass
Each ranking compares model families through one value computed from stored catalogue data.
A family appears when at least one version currently offered for sale has the ranking value. Unknown values are left out.
The representative version has the best ranking value for its family. A tie is resolved by verified version price, then version name.
Positions use the value shown at the listed precision. Equal displayed values share a position, and the next position accounts for every family ahead.
The energy ranking order uses blended consumption and stays the same across driver profiles. Its cost figure uses the default profile and current energy prices, then follows a saved profile after load.
Score rankings use the published EvCompass score for the named driving context.
The “WLTP vs real range over a year” ranking reads each car's year-round combined range on the straight line between its −10 °C and 23 °C figures, at Poland's annual mean air temperature of 8.7 °C (IMGW-PIB climate normals 1991–2020), and divides it by the WLTP range. A straight line between two measured points is an approximation.
Current on-sale catalogue: 629 cars.

Range and winter
This section explains measured and estimated range, driving scenarios and Poland's cold-weather share.
- Range, consumption and energy cost are shown for several driving conditions; the energy price can be changed in the ownership cost settings.
- Marked figures are derived from official WLTP values and calibrated against published real-world range measurements.
- Method: we convert the car's baseline consumption and real-world range through fixed profile factors, adjusted for body style, weight, AWD and heat pump when those fields are available. Bands show simulation uncertainty, not a guaranteed result.
- Poland's cold-weather share is calculated from IMGW-PIB climate normals for 1991–2020.
Charging
Charging figures use the car's onboard AC limit and available DC charging curve.
- Power across the charging window and stop time come from one validated data series.
- Home AC chargers shown with a car are ranked by how closely their power matches the car's onboard charger.
- The onboard AC charger limits the car's charging power; a higher-power station cannot exceed that limit.
- The consumption source does not state whether its figures include charging losses; no additional loss factor is applied.
Prices and tariffs
Energy, purchase value and tyre costs use separate, explicit calculations.
- Ownership costs cover energy, scheduled servicing and seasonal tyres, priced from one transparent set of assumptions.
- Purchase price divided by real-world range. This is a purchase-value metric, not the driving cost for 1 km.
- Tyre ageing without mileage is excluded; seasonal changeovers are counted twice per year.
Trucks and buses
Truck and bus facts depend on published data; charger matching uses a class and duty profile when vehicle power is missing.
- The verdict on a truck or bus page sums up the key arguments drawn from published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.
- Manufacturer-published facts are grouped by the decisions they inform, not by raw source headings.
- These are manufacturer-published figures gathered through EvCompass research.
- Published price evidence and the answer on availability in Poland are kept together to support a buying decision.
- A missing price is the rule rather than the exception in heavy transport — makers quote on request.
- Chargers are matched to the vehicle's published power or, when that figure is missing, to a clearly stated duty profile.
- Published vehicle DC power is used as the charger-matching target when available.
- When vehicle power is missing, recommendations use a typical value for the vehicle class and duty.
Routes
Route forecasts combine measured route legs, charging-price data and a modelled vehicle journey.
- Stations within the chosen distance of a route do not represent complete corridor coverage.
- The versions view on a route page compares available versions of the same model.
- Stops are modelled and are not real charger locations.
- The route simulation uses a starting charge, an arrival reserve and a target charge.
- Winter and summer temperatures are inputs to the route simulation.
- Average speed is an input to the route calculation.
- Energy added before departure is not included in the cost.
- Route forecasts cover a one-way trip.
Sources
Dates attached to data are stored source reads, measurements or snapshots; we refresh them when a source or dataset is updated.
- The verdict on a car page sums up the main arguments drawn from approved data and the EvCompass editorial summary.
- The comparison on a car page sets the same verified metrics for the car against up to two of its closest alternatives.
- Specifications are grouped by the decisions they inform, not by raw source headings.
- EvCompass publishes canonical facts, manufacturer values and clearly labelled calculations only.
- Each vehicle lists the sources and research notes behind its figures, claims and editorial assessment.
- Manufacturer data — feeds technical specifications and is refreshed when a manufacturer source is read; the stored read date is shown.
- Polish list prices — feed version prices and are rechecked when the published price list is reviewed.
- EIPA — supplies public charging price medians; the snapshot date is shown with each median.
- Charging network price pages — supply operator prices; we read them when verifying the price page and store the date.
- Electricity tariff sources — feed the home-charging rate; we store the read date and label indicative data.
- IMGW-PIB 1991–2020 climate normals — supply climate normals for the cold-weather share; this is a fixed reference period, not a live measurement.
- Public-test dataset and calibration — feed range estimates; updates are identified by a calibration version.
- Servicing and tyre datasets — feed ownership costs and are refreshed with dataset updates; stored read dates are retained.
- Route measurements and road charges — feed distances, times and charges; measurement or verification dates are stored with the records.
- OpenStreetMap — supplies map data and attribution; the map is refreshed with its source data.
