Real range FAQ

Where do the WLTP and real range figures come from?
The WLTP range is the manufacturer's declared figure. The real range is calculated from measured mild-weather consumption for this specific model — when no such measurement exists, we fall back to its WLTP consumption, and finally to its typical catalogue consumption figure.
Does the calculator account for a heat pump?
Yes, but only where it actually matters: if a model has measured cold-weather consumption, we use it directly. Only when that measurement is missing do we estimate a winter range loss — smaller for cars with a heat pump, larger for those without, and when heat-pump fitment is unknown we say so plainly and use a value in between.
Why does the range in my conditions differ from the manufacturer's figure?
Temperature, speed, occupancy, a roof box and winter tyres all change energy consumption. The coefficients that model this are indicative editorial assumptions described in the assumptions section — not measured manufacturer figures.
