The EvCompass verdict

The key arguments drawn from the published data and the EvCompass editorial summary.

In city buses hydrogen makes sense where a battery bus cannot cover the daily mileage and there is one depot anyway — refuelling infrastructure serves the whole fleet from a single point, which long-haul freight does not have. A 70 kW fuel cell works with a ZF electric axle, and five composite tanks hold hydrogen at 350 bar. Polish operators already run them.

Strengths

  • A single depot serves refuelling for the whole fleet.

Weaknesses

  • 350 km is a hydrogen-tank range rather than a SORT result for a battery bus, so it is not directly comparable with a BEV.

Battery and charging

On charging
Hydrogen refuelling at 350 bar, roughly 10-20 minutes for a full fill; no depot charging needed in normal operation. A small Solaris High Power (LTO) buffer battery handles acceleration and recuperation. Plug-in charging of the buffer battery is available as an option on some builds.

Measurement basis
manufacturer, tank range on one 36.8 kg hydrogen fill (5 x 312 l type-4 composite tanks at 350 bar). This is a fuel-cell tank range and is not comparable to a battery-electric SORT range.

This is a hydrogen vehicle — the figure describes range on one tank fill, not on a battery, and is not comparable with battery-electric range.

Price and availability

What it costs and whether it is available in Poland

Published price evidence and the Polish availability answer, kept together for a buying decision.

The manufacturer publishes no price for this vehicle.

In heavy transport that is the rule rather than the exception — makers quote on request.

No published unit price isolated for the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen. For scale, in the same Polish hydrogen-bus tenders Daimler's competing Mercedes-Benz eCitaro fuel cell was awarded to PKS Rzeszow in 2025 at 3,092,000 PLN net per unit for 6 units - Solaris and NesoBus also bid in that procedure.

Poland

Available in Poland

Polish-built at Bolechowo and the market-leading fuel-cell bus in Europe. Polish operators running it include MPK Krakow (line 128), Konin, Chelm, Wloclawek, Gdansk, Poznan, Rybnik and Lublin. Poland is unusual in Europe for having a domestic hydrogen bus supply chain: Solaris builds the bus, and the rival NesoBus is also Polish (Polsat Plus / ZE PAK, Swidnik).

Charging infrastructure

Recommended chargers

Chargers matched to the vehicle's published power or to a clearly stated duty profile when that figure is missing.

This vehicle does not publish its own DC charging power. The chargers below are matched to a charging profile typical for this class of vehicle (around 150 kW), not to a figure this vehicle publishes.
