Volkswagen overtakes Tesla in Europe – how does this rivalry look in Poland?

The ID.3, ID.4 and ID.7 have taken the top spots on the European podium, leaving Tesla with the Model 3 and Model Y far behind. We check how much these models actually cost on the Polish market and whether they are worth choosing. More information about electric cars can be found in our catalogue.

ID.3 – a compact hatchback at a Polish price

The ID.3 is a compact hatchback competing with the Model 3. In Poland, the Pro Performance version with a 58 kWh battery costs from around 155,890 PLN, while the top Pro S with a 77 kWh battery starts from around 179,990 PLN. The WLTP range is up to 426 km for the 58 kWh and up to 549 km for the 77 kWh – although the real winter range, as Chip wrote, is realistically 305–330 km on motorways and in cold weather. DC fast charging reaches up to 100 kW.

ID.4 – an SUV that may be renamed "Electric Tiguan"

The ID.4 is an SUV that, in the new generation planned for 2026, may be renamed to "Electric Tiguan". In Poland, a unit priced at 179,200 PLN was found as the 77 kWh Pro – likely a promotional offer. The WLTP range for this battery is 512–572 km, and charging from 10 to 80% takes around 28–30 minutes. More about electric cars can be found in our catalogue.

ID.7 – an electric limousine with a reasonable price

The most expensive and most elegant in the range – the ID.7 Pro (286 HP, 77 kWh) costs 222,690 PLN at list price in Poland, but promotions lower it to 182,690 PLN. The WLTP range is 618 km (Pro) and up to 709 km in the Pro S version (86 kWh). DC charging from 10 to 80% takes around 28 minutes. More information about electric cars can be found in our catalogue.

Tesla Model Y – still in the game, but more expensive

The Model Y RWD (299 HP, 64.5 kWh, 534 km WLTP range) costs 184,990 PLN. The Premium RWD version (79 kWh, 622 km WLTP) – 219,990 PLN. The Performance AWD variant (460 HP, 85 kWh, 580 km WLTP, 0–100 in 3.5 s) is priced at 269,990 PLN.

Summary – which model to choose?

  • ID.3: from ~155,890 to ~214,490 PLN, range 426–549 km – ideal for the city, with a charging plan for trips.
  • ID.4: SUV ~179,200 PLN, range 512–572 km – comfort and practicality.
  • ID.7: 182,690–222,690 PLN, range 618–709 km – an electric limousine.
  • Tesla Model Y: from 184,990 to 269,990 PLN, power and performance – but more expensive, especially in the Performance version.

Volkswagen has not only pushed Tesla off the European podium – in Poland it offers a real choice for drivers who want range, comfort and a reasonable price.

Expert verdict: who really wins here?

Volkswagen has built an entire range of electric cars – a compact, an SUV and a limousine – with sensible ranges, reasonable prices and a tailored offer, spanning from accessible prices to higher tiers. Tesla remains fast and flashy, but in everyday driving the Model Y may be more show than sense.

FAQ – frequently asked questions

How much does the cheapest Volkswagen ID.3 cost in Poland?

The Volkswagen ID.3 in the Pro Performance version with a 58 kWh battery starts from around 155,890 PLN. This is an option for city drivers who do not need very large ranges. For this price, you get an electric hatchback with a WLTP range of up to 426 km – although in winter you should realistically count on around 305–330 km. The top Pro S version with a 77 kWh battery and a range of up to 549 km costs from 179,990 PLN, with the difference between variants being just under 25,000 PLN.

Is the Volkswagen ID.7 more expensive than the Tesla Model Y in Poland?

Not exactly – it depends on the version. The ID.7 Pro on promotion costs 182,690 PLN (list price 222,690 PLN), while the Tesla Model Y RWD starts from 184,990 PLN. Volkswagen offers significantly more range – 618 km versus 534 km in the Tesla. Comparing premium versions, the Tesla Model Y Premium RWD at 219,990 PLN has a range of 622 km, comparable to the ID.7 Pro. Volkswagen therefore gives more range for less money, although the Tesla Performance AWD at 269,990 PLN is a different league of power with 460 HP and 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

Which Volkswagen model – ID.3, ID.4 or ID.7 – has the best price-to-range ratio?

The ID.7 Pro on promotion comes out best in terms of efficiency. For 182,690 PLN, you get 618 km of range, which works out at around 296 PLN per kilometre of range. The ID.3 Pro S (179,990 PLN, 549 km) is around 328 PLN/km, and the ID.4 77 kWh Pro (179,200 PLN, an average of 542 km) comes out similarly. Looking purely at the figures, the ID.7 on promotion wins – it offers a limousine with the longest range in the lineup at a price close to that of the SUV or the compact in their top versions.

How fast can the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.7 charge at a fast-charging station?

Both the ID.4 and the ID.7 charge at DC stations from 10 to 80% in around 28–30 minutes, which is a decent result for 77–86 kWh batteries. During a short coffee-and-restroom stop, you can top up enough energy for another 300–400 km of driving. The ID.3 is slightly slower, with DC charging power of up to 100 kW, but with a smaller 58 kWh battery it still performs reasonably. The Tesla Model Y charges at a similar speed, so in terms of refuelling speed Volkswagen matches its rival.
